Center for Business Cycles
- monitoring business cycles in the Czech Republic, European Union and United States
- developing the tradition of Austrian business cycle theory (basic literature on this unique approach is listed here – stránka v češtině).
- researching empirical methods of measuring cyclical developments
The Center monitors the course of business cycles in selected countries using existing theoretical and empirical tools. With respect to this primary goal the aim is to find a distinct method of determining the current stage of the business cycle, e.g. to select suitable indicators (GDR, median CPI, AMS, etc.) that accompany each stage of the cycle and describe the state of the economy accurately.
A second objective of the Center is to try and develop the Austrian business cycle theory itself. The foundations are the traditional Austrian theory as well as prof. Hülsmann's attempt to generalize it which would make the Austrian cycle theory a true praxeological theory.
The result of the Center's activities will be the identification of government intervention as a cause of cyclical economic development and of the adverse effects connected to it. The Center aims to provide commentary on the effects of state intervention on business cycles and to recommend policy changes that would curtail these periodical fluctuations in economic activity.
